56. Under the Pier

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

1/23/2007 OCEAN CITY, NJ. Beneath 14th St Fishing Pier- I wanted to look at this Fishing Pier from a different perspective. I had painted it from a distance several previous times. Now I wanted to see it from another angle. I anchored my 3 legged stool in the sand and began to paint. The tide however, had its own idea. Soon it was washing up against my feet. I hurriedly packed up, left, and came back at a more auspicious time, (when the tide was going out, not coming in)! Gaining a new perspective on things is not always easy. The tide of life sometimes works against us. It takes persistence to see things from a different---and perhaps more truthful-angle.
