24. Sheffield Lighthouse II

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

7/18/1995 NORWICH, CT. In this painting of the Sheffield Lighthouse, I wanted to create the feeling of a misty, foggy, damp day on the Long Island Sound. After using a twig stick dipped in ink to draw a rough outline of the picture, I proceeded to wash the paper over with pale violets and gray-blues, keeping all other colors diminished and subtle. The lighthouse carries out its responsibilities in all kinds of weather, good and bad, pleasant and unpleasant. The sun doesn't always shine, neither for the lighthouse nor for us. But regardless we have our responsibilities. The Sheffield Lighthouse is there to perform its duty in all kinds of stormy weather. And it can be no different for us.
