22. Beached for Winter

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

3/6/2005 - OCEAN CITY, NJ. While walking the beach on a late October Day, I found these boats pulled ashore and anchored up near the dunes. The summer season had come and gone. Now these catamarans had been hauled out of the water and set aside for the winter months. Their usefulness, for the time being, was over. As I painted this scene, I wanted the sky to reflect the cold gray of a late autumn day. The summer was gone. Now it was time to leave the sand and the ocean behind, and get on with the routine tasks of living. It is always tempting to want to linger with the joys and ease of good times, but the calendar of our lives will not cooperate. There is always work to be done.
