1984 - HUDSON RIVER CAMP GROUND, WARRENSBURG, NY - We had pitched our tent for the day in a lovely little campground in Warrensburg, N.Y. Later I spotted this small shed-like barn nearby. The green barrel at the corner of the shed was a mystery to me until I spotted the tin cup hanging from the rafter above it. Was the cup used for drinking the water in the barrel, or perhaps for bailing it out into another container for other purposes? My inquisitiveness then lead me to focus on the shed itself; the weathered boards, the metal roof, the shadow on the boards, and the rusted hinges on the door. Using a dry brush technique, I tried to capture the weathered appearance of the shed. Out of my interested in the incidental tin cup, a painting was born. Sometimes our inquisitiveness can awaken us to a larger Reality.
