7. An English Farm

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

8/27/1996 - CAUSEWAY HALL RIDGEWELL, ENGLAND While vacationing in England in the little village of Ridgewell in East Anglia, we lodged in the lovely brown "barn guest house" seen the edge of this field. To paint this picture I walked a good distance out into the field. Resting against a tree, I sat in the grass and painted the farm. I placed the houses and barns on the far horizon, putting the emphasis on the wide expanse of open land. From my chosen perspective the open spaciousness of the farm is paramount. As predominately urban and suburban people we often lose a sense of the freedom of unobstructed space. Such openness releases us, if only momentarily, from the press and congestion of our modern world. It gives our souls a place to breath.
