86 A. BLUE CANDLE

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

2003 Unable to go out on location and paint, I put together this combination of candle, fruit and cup. My first attempt was somewhat timid. So I repainted the still life in a more bold fashion, deepening the colors and letting the brush marks be part of the composition. An arrangement and assortment like this awakens one to the possibilities of the most common things around us. We needn't paint only the grandiose. The possibilities for art are all about us, even in the most ordinary of things.
