69A. FORLORN HOUSE

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

2006 BELLVALE, NY I had passed this house frequently on Rt.17A in Bellvale, N.Y. It sits back a good distance from the road, forlorn and isolated among some old, tall, drooping evergreen trees. Though not abandoned, the house looks sad and friendless. Altering the setting, I wanted this house to feel alone and lonely. The colors were kept somber, and in a Birchfield manner, I made the shades on the windows appear as drooping, downcast eyes. Who at some time or another has not felt like this house, alone and downcast? Like this old house, however, we endure and live on.
