58. REMNANTS OF A FISHING PIER

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

2000 OCEAN CITY, NJ Sometime ago an ocean storm ravaged this pier. What is left are the remnants of a pier that once extended out over the ocean providing an advantageous platform for fishermen to cast their lines. Now just some piling and crossbeams remain. As I sat on the beach at the this southern most end of Ocean City, I watched fishermen fish from the rocks behind on the Jetty and a small boy play with his boat at the edge of the surf. Even the remnant of something that once was, affords opportunities for pleasure. Often the only option we have is to make the best of what remains.
