13B. WINTER BRIDGE

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

2001 RINGWOOD MANOR, NJ The bridge over this stream at Ringwood Manor had attracted my attention more than once. However, the actual bridge was little more than a flat, nondescript metal bridge, but the setting around the bridge was attractive. Using my imagination, I transformed the metal bridge into the stone bridge as pictured in the painting. I also changed the season from fall (when I did the original sketch) to a snowy winter day. How easy it is for the painter with his/her brush to modify and reshape the world! Would that change was that easy. Instead, change for the better, whether personal or social, is often a slow, tedious, and sometimes courageous process. However, perhaps the painter, with his effortlessness facility to change, might at least be a reminder that we do have the freedom to modify our personal behavior as well as that of the society in which we live.
