82. Bear Mountain Boulders

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

2001 BEAR MOUNTAIN, NY Off to the side of Rt. 9W at Bear Mountain, I found this clump of huge, ponderous boulders. Making my way down into the gully, I found a cordrortable spot to sit and made this sketch. These massive boulders sit on top and next to one another, randomly place there when the ice age retreated northward thousands of years ago. I wanted to capture the rough, marred, ancient texture of the stone, portraying their ageless presence in the gully. The rough, worn texture of the boulders reminds us that age has its own .beauty. Perhaps we need to be reminded of that more often.
