44. NEW CITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

1983 NEW CITY, NY I pastored this church for 15 years. Located on Congers road in New City, it was built in 1964. The architecture reflects a contemporary style that was prevalent in those years. The outstanding signature of the church is its sway· back roof (some say it is the church that "God sat on"), and the three tall free standing crosses. The familiar is often difficult to assess. It is too much a part of us. We know too much. I felt this way about this painting. It was difficult just to "let it be" and not try to make it say too much. This is often the situation with all the familiar that we love.
