29. DAWN AT ROCKLAND LAKE

CONGERS, NY. For a number of years it was my custom early every morning to go over to Rockland Lake, in Congers, N. Y. and walk around the lake. It became a habitual time of exercise. During the winter months, when the sunrise was later, I would often witness the first rays of the new day breaking over the Palisades behind the eastern shore of Rockland Lake. It illuminated the hills and woods with a luminous glow, spreading an aura of gold over the lake, offering a gift of beauty at the beginning of a new day. Using several transparent washes, I attempted to capture that radiant moment in the dawn at Rockland Lake. When the beautiful is gifted, we need to be receptive to its moment.
