72. Columns of StoneI

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

2003 RINGWOOD MANOR, NJ. These two stately stone columns guide one through a roadway at Ringwood Manner State Park in New Jersey. Crafted of purple pudding stone, they stand like sentinels on either side of the road. At one time they were part of the carriage roadways around the 18th century estate of the Manner. Today they are used primarily for State Park vehicles. I found their regal appearance attractive. Although obviously no longer part of a wealthy private estate, the columns remain imposing and are still of service. Varying circumstances in our lives sometimes call upon us to serve in other capacities. Like these stone columns, we may find ourselves at different times filling different needs. These gracious pudding stone pillars do not object. Perhaps neither should we.
