Old barns are an essential part of the landscape in Southern Maryland. In particular, Tobacco farming was prevalent in the area and these unique barns had a different structure inside to dry the tobacco leaves. In 2000, Maryland offered Tobacco Farmers a financial incentive to move away from farming Tobacco and many of these barns then stood neglected and unused. Recognizing the historical significance of these barns. The Maryland Historical Trust and Preservation Maryland introduced a grant program in 2004 to aid farm owners in preserving and restoring these historical barns. Alas, this particular barn was bulldozed in 2019 to clear the farmland for development.
