This is one of a number of watercolor sketches I did in preparation for my Jaffa Marketplace, late 1800s painting. It features a number of market day sights: the shopkeeper waiting by his goods in shade under the awning, women from nearby villages seated in the square selling produce, passers-by bent in conversation, and a small family group.
