The purpling trees disintegrated into the the drizzling rain and fog—and yet, their strong conviction of belonging to this land and their rootedness in the skies above were a comfort as she drove into the distant hills. With no particular destination in mind, she let her heart lead the way on the Santa Anna drive that day. She, too, would root herself in the skies that stretched forever and in this land she loved.
