She climbed to the summit of Knocknarea, called "the magic mountain" by some locals, winding her way to the legendary Queen Maeve's gravesite, a 40-foot cairn. Earth and sky came to life and drew her in. The horse had long awaited her arrival, his mane feathered and flying about on the windy day. There, by the stone wall, overlooking slopes of emerald green and the sparkling waters of Ballysadare Bay, she imagined him to be the strong stallion the determined queen rode fearlessly into battle. Clouds formed and transformed into mythical shapes. It seemed as if Maeve herself had come to meet her, riding in on a chariot to bear witness to her climb on this resplendent day.
