The Fixed Mountain

Ireland Paintings By Dawn Richerson

A dragon-shaped cloud hovered above Ben Bulben, Yeats' beloved mountain that rises on the shores of Sligo Bay. The mountain itself seemed fixed, solid in its conviction, unmovable almost, yet everything around it—the wind, the water, and the moveable clouds in the greying skies seemed to shift at the dragon’s command. But this dragon was no ordinary, fire-breathing monster. Rather, she was the bearer of a great love and sent as a guardian of elemental alchemy. Earth and sky, with all that moves within it, are brought into perfect balance. The vastness of the sea meets face-to-face the fire in the belly of this mythical land. All things are brought into balance here in the shadow of Ben Bulben. This Ireland painting is from the Soul of Ireland Collection by artist Dawn Richerson, who found joy and wonder in the heart of the Emerald Isle where she lived for three years. What does your soul remember? What story is alive in you?
