Skellig Michael lies off the southwest coast of Ireland in County Kerry. It was made famous by the closing scenes of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” but its magic captivated me from a distance and then in person years before. Inspired by a dream and an upcoming journey to the Emerald Isle, this painting captures an island mountain alive with shades of green that meld and morph as a dancing dragon. A shadowy figure seems to walk on water, approaching the holy isle beneath a moonlit sky and clouds that move in tandem with the waves below. My treasured visit there lived up to the foreshadowing of a homecoming, which I felt first as I painted the deep blues of the sea against a mountain breathing holy fire and alive with the presence of the divine. In the distance, purple mountains exude a certain peace as the broken staircase leads to a portal and deeper into mystery. In the heart of the Emerald Isle I was met with mystery and miracle.
