Animal forms float through a scene growing green with memory multiplied. Many green mountains and a swirling sea of characters and experiences spring to life, expanding and contracting like a mirage. These are among those things and people that brought her back to life. Was life but a dream? Or had it been real? When and where and what precisely happened she could no more recall. How was lost to mystery. Yet, who and why she knew by heart. They would not let her go. In the mishmash she knew things were turning bright and green. She was letting go of blue and floating through the days. Carried by a current that had swept her out to sea, she surrendered to the stories, larger than life and swimming through her soul. This painting is inspired by the two visits I made to the South of France in 2016 and by what I know by heart—soul memories from the life of Mary, called the Magdalen, which have long lived in me. From the larger Faithscapes Collection from Virginia artist Dawn Richerson.
