Malunggay/Marungay (moringa oleifera)

Baybayin Block Prints By Chris T. Lipat

Malunggay (Tagalog)/Marungay (Ilokano) (scientific name: moringa oleifera) is a traditional healing food of the Philippines. Malunggay has remarkable antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. It is affectionately called the "Philippine flag" in Hawaiʻi, since Filipinxs are known to grow this medicinal plant in their yards. To me it is a symbol of pride, a powerful, nourishing ancestral food that sustains a people. This image was originally created by Chris Lipat in 2014 on lino block print. 50% of artist proceeds will be donated to the Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Scholarship Program.
