Maasai Boys

Cultural By Barry & Cathy Beck

Maasi boys are sent out with the calves and young goats as soon as they can toddle, but childhood for boys is mostly playtime. Families are often reluctant to send boys to school because they are needed at home during the day to take the cattle to find grass and water, returning late in the evening. There is also concern by the elders that educating children will cause them to turn their back on their culture and birthright.
