Flame Burns Brighter

Homage By Phillip John O'sullivan

Homage: Colin McCahon 2024 Original variations on a theme by a leading Western Region Pacific Coast artist. Colin McCahon, inspired by what he saw in 'Life' Magazines article of a Spanish Nuns Black and White scriptural paintings in the Spanish Abstract expressionist mode of 1954 as exhibited at the Vatican Pavilion of the Worlds Fair that year. Colin McCahon began works in similar vein in the far flung Pacific region. These are variations on a theme therefore of both artists with a Catholic bent. I am not a Catholic however, walking out at the tender age of twelve having read Machiavelli, Marx and Nietzsche to become an Atheist artist then for 26 years. During the years 2003 to 2005, or so, began exploring Colin's work. Whom I had met, then visited as I lived one block away from him in New Lynn Auckland near Western Springs. Where McCahons home and late City Studio was during the seventies. I converted for real as an adult sometime after those years. Partly from my acquaintance with him. Having many mystical experiences and carry on the traditions implied in his work.
