Piebald Doe Brings up the Rear

The White Deer By Michael Bateman

This White-tailed Deer is the Alpha Doe of a herd of roughly seven females that regularly pass through my local stomping grounds. Here she is making sure no trouble follows them away from a favorite foraging spot. This animal was famous amongst the locals here. This was taken in October of 2019 and is one of the very last photos I took of her before she died of natural causes on the beach of our local lake here in Kinnelon in February of 2020. She was cared for in her final moments by her human fan club, surrounded in warm blankets and protected from predators.
