Piebald Doe Resting

The White Deer By Michael Bateman

Here she sat in the backyard for more than an hour as her fawn and another young deer foraged. This was in October. It's a game we would play of pretending not to see the other. If I were to accidentally make eye contact she would start to get up, but if I looked away quickly and ignored her she would sit back down. She is a White-tailed Deer with a piebald coat resulting from Leucism. Unlike Albinism some pigmentation remains.
