No More Stolen Sisters

Culture By Joanna Labelle

No more stolen sisters. Original measures 11” x 17”. Media: acrylic, ink, collage, digital. May 5, is National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. Native women, girls, trans-individuals, and two spirits suffer a staggeringly high rate of sexual assault and violence. Indigenous women and girls , trans-individuals and two spirits are murdered at a rate 10 times higher than any other ethnicity. In fact, the CDC lists their third leading cause of death as murder. This is a call to action; do not tolerate the silence surrounding the abuse and neglect of Indigenous women, girls, trans-individuals and two spirits. Don’t be silent, spread the word and love. Support and respect one another and honor the strong women in your life.
