Polyommatus icarus (CommonBlue). Original measures 16” x 16”. Mixed media: acrylic paint, ink, digital. The Common Blue is a small (approximately 35mm wingspan) species of butterfly native to Dorset, England. Their dorsal (top or back) coloration varies from a dull grey to a striking periwinkle blue. Ventrally (stomach) their colors range from a subtle beige to coral pink with orange blotches. This floral mandala features both views of the Common Blue and is accented with metallic gold.
