Traveling Kangaroo Rat

Wildlife Art By Kate Morozova

Kangaroo rats are some of my favorite mammals. They are somewhat common in the more arid regions of Southerner California, however many people never see them because of their nocturnal habit. They are super important for the ecosystem because they disperse native plant seeds in their cheeks, including seeds of the Western Joshua Tree, and dig burrows, which are often used by various other wildlife afterwards.
