Owens Pupfish is a beautiful little fish native and endemic to Southern California. Diversions of water to feed the Los Angeles area in the 1900s eliminated most of the water bodies in which this fish was found, and it was believed to be extinct. However populations have been later rediscovered and now conservation and recovery efforts are underway. The Owens pupfish is listed as Fully Protected in California.
