Crusty Curmudgeon

Why Not By Deborah Blair

I was looking for my next inspiration and told my husband I didn't paint people because I was afraid they wouldn't feel I represented them in the light they would want so he told me to paint him. I just took this image of him while testing my camera and he wasn't ready for the shot. I showed it to him and he said Crusty Curmudgeon! I wanted it to feel like one of those portraits that hang over the mantel in a haunted movie that is judging the situation happening in the house. I used cold press paper along with masking techniques, layering both wet on wet and wet on dry. I completed this piece on 1-26-22
