Splattered Skies 1

Splattered Skies By Cody Thecreative

Splattered Skies No. 1 is the concept piece behind the entire collection. The splatter was intended to create a mirroring effect, because I knew I wanted it to feel like there is water reflecting the radiant sunset. The scene is inspired by a lake I came across on the Million Dollar Highway in Ouray, Colorado while I was traveling across the country from NY to CA - Crystal Lake. A much needed reprieve from the unrelenting heat I encountered on this trip. Maybe this is where the pallet choice came from? Hadn't thought about it until now! I had been driving for weeks, stopping to draw and take in the scenery along the way, but after only a day or so into the trip the heat became unbearable. I'm thinking, now, maybe this is why I chose the pallet I did! Colorado was the first state I really wanted to spend time in and by the time I got there I had been through the most horrifying storm in Kansas City, and about a week of upper 90 degree heat. Colorado has so much unbelievable scenery, but the Ouray area is incredible. It completely recharged me and this lake in particular was a very special stop.
