Rocky Mountain Columbine

State Flowers By Alissa H. Weiss

The Rocky Mountain Columbine is the State Flower of Colorado. It is a beautifully complex flower. It grows upside down with its spiny spurs pointed upward. But as it opens into a blossom the petals open up and the flower grows right side up. Its symbolism varies by culture, but most endearing, the Romans attributed it to Aphrodite, and love.
