Michael Mcconnell

PinyonGreen
Carbondale, CO

Michael resides and practices art in the heart of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where the diversity of landforms, contours, valleys, peaks, plateaus, granite, sandstone, and sweeping vistas serve as an endless well of inspiration for his creative endeavors. Graduating from a graduate school program in Landscape Architecture, Michael began exploring drawing, painting, and collage as a means to convey and interpret design concepts. This exploration eventually led him to delve into mixed-media painting, assemblage, printmaking, and alternative process photography as vehicles for self-expression.

His experimental mission is to merge ideas with materials and processes to create an alchemical space where elements of architecture, cartography, landscape, cinema, symbols, surface, contours, and horizon lines can coexist harmoniously. Drawing from a wide range of interests, from botany to technology, science to science fiction, camera obscura to cinema, and typography to printmaking, Michael's image-making ideas are as diverse as the landscapes that surround him.

In his current work, Michael continues to explore the intersection between surface, form, and material through mixed-media abstraction, meticulously building surfaces and structures through applications of paint and material collage. Each piece is a unique representation of his artistic vision and passion for experimentation. Enjoy the work and consider purchasing his prints for your home or office decor to bring a touch of the Rocky Mountains into your everyday life.
