"The use of continuous line in my work is allegorical to spiritual divinity and universal energy- that which flows through and connects all things. The line becomes a structure that is then engaged in slowed down meditative mark making actions. Reduced to flat, simplified elements of line, shape, and color, I abstract figures and space to emphasize a state of emotion. Bold and vibrant narrative scenes explore themes of transformation, healing, and connection- to one's self and to each other. "

Kathryn Eli is an artist currently living in Chicago. She began her studies in 2006 as a scholarship student for The Writer's Center for Creative Writing and Poetry, and earned her BFA in Studio Arts from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2011, with a minor in Art History. As an Artist in Residence at Side Street Studio Arts in Elgin 2019-2020, she lead a monthly Critique Night, and was a member of the gallery’s Exhibitions Committee. She is active as an artist in her NW Chicago neighborhood, providing hand drawn chalkboard menus, signs, illustrations, and wall murals for local businesses.
